Name: Aamu (meaning Morning) Banyon
Nickname: Idonea (meaning To Renew Nature)
Age: 37
Age Appearance: Aamu is starting to show the her age becoming rougher around the corners and earning a couple of crow's feet. Being a mother and a farmer does that to a woman.
Species: Human
Birthday: June 24, Midsummer's Day
Height: 5'0"
Marital Status: Married
Skills: She knows how to farm, of course, and can sing and dance – but that's about it. She can not read or spell, and does not know any other language other then her mother tongue(English).
Magic: Aamu has a most wonderful 'green thumb.' Her knowledge of herbs and plants is rather astounding for one so young, and envy-worthy of fellow farmers. Aamu is able to identify a plant/herb with in a matter of moments upon seeing, smelling, and in some cases, tasting it. While it may take endless years for other gardeners, as we shall call them, to gain the knowledge of the variety of plants and herbs, and to remember each of them properly, Aamu has gained in only a few. On top of the green thumb, Aamu also is excellent at preserving and drying herbs and plants, keeping a large selection of dried herbs and plants on her body in a pouched leather belt that hangs about her waist. Furthermore, Aamu is rather skilled at making potions and medicines, though not as skilled as her mother, who also has a gifted green thumb, nor other other members of her mother`s family.
It is a legacy of Marianna's family to have this gifted green thumb, along with another gift that is more 'magical.' All women born from a member of Marianna's family have the ability of rune-magic. It is an ancient magic and elemental in its basis. The runes are not found outside of the family since it was protected most jealously by the woman who first discovered the power from all save for her daughters, making a vow that no man, even a relative, shall learn the magic and no outsiders, and that it should only be daughters of the women in their clan to have the knowledge. So it is that each mother teachers her daughter or daughters the rune-magic, and then that daughter or daughters upon having have daughter(s) of their own teaches the next generation. Of course, this legacy can be easily cut off if one female of the family were to only have sons, however that has only happened a few precious times and each time the woman who bore sons only had a sister who had daughters. If Aamu were to have had only sons it have meant the end for the legacy, even if she has a son who had daughters it is unlikely Aamu would be alive to teach that generation and it is not suppose to happen since the teachings are not suppose to skip a generation since the chain of power would be weaken. Of course, Aamu has a daughter, who is half elf, so there should not be much concern about the legacy at least for a couple of generations.
The runes that is used in connection with this magic are very complex making the magic unworthy of battle use. In a battle or any fight the competitors must be quick and use all sorts of surfaces to fight on - the runes must be drawn on the earth, the main source of power, otherwise they will no manifest. The runes must also be drawn correctly or else a disastrous mistake may occur. Also the magic cannot be used too much since it weakens the user with each stroke of the rune. The maximum of runes that an member of the family has used was 7 before she fainted from exhaustion. The magic, therefore, is mostly used in relation to farming and gardening, helping to create more light, rain, shade, and so forth as needed. Due to it being a well-kept secret of the women of the family, barely spoken about even with the male members of the family, outsiders who have heard rumours are curious, envious and somewhat distrusting of the abilities that the women of the line of le Beryl (the woman who had first discovered the magic, rumoured to be a cousin of the Swamp Witch Ral Partha) since no family member will confirm nor deny the rumours of their magic, nor will they share it.
Weaknesses: Only able to perform a few spells before becoming ill or fainting, having to draw the runes on earth and making sure they are perfect are most definitely weaknesses. Another weakness, along with the limitations of her rune magic, is that Aamu will become ill feeling, dizzy, disoriented, nausea, etc, in the presence of a long of magic, especially powerful magic, making her a easy target. Furthermore, Aamu has no training in combat so would have little knowledge on how to defend herself against weapons other then to turn and run as fast as she can.
Weapons: Her herbs and plants which she carries around her waist in multiple leather pouches, a gift from her mother.
Appearance:
---A much better picture of what she should look like, without the pointed ears though.---
Personality: Aamu is what you could call an introvert. She is most certainly on the quieter side, unless she is around people she knows well (her family for the most part). A lot of the time, she would prefer the company of nature over the company of other people. She would much rather have order over chaos, calm over upset, peace over hostility and so forth. She like the simple things in life – the wonder of the sky and all that it holds, the beauty of the mountains and forests and the brilliance of the life-bearing fields and streams. She is passionate of that which she loves, she is foolish about that which she doesn't know and is blissful ignorant at times. She is a sweet, kind, gentle darling. She is day-dreamer by night, and a realist by day. She is a typical young women whose father is a farmer, and whose mother is the wife of a farmer. Of course, despite all the romantic demure personality Aamu portrays most times, if the situation calls for it, she can be harsh and mean, but that side of her is rarely seen since it's only if she has drunk too much or is been angered over her limit.
History: Aamu Roland is the only daughter to Thom Roland and Marianna Roland. Thom and Marianna met when Thom was traveling around Glenenvale when he was a younger, silly man, trying to see the world before he would become trapped by his family duty to take over the Roland farm when the time came. Of course, his original plan was to travel all around Glenenvale, and beyond the borders, perhaps to see the Elves of Silvanus? However, he did not make it that far, for he came to a small village near the Frozen Plains where he beheld the most beautiful and enchanting creature he had ever seen – Aamu's mother, Marianna. After a few months of proving himself to her and her family, they were wedded, and headed back to Thom's farm near the Glenenvale Court.
Fast forward 17 years – Thom and Marianna have a son and a daughter. The son is 16, a young man, itching to explore the world after growing up with the stories his father has told him about his adventure around Glenendale. The daughter, not much older then 11, content learning the ways of nature both from her father, in regards to farming, and from her mother, in the ways of using herbs and plants for different things. The son, however, was tired of farming – waking up with the sun, or before the sun, working all day in the fields, and with the cattle and chickens and what ever else was found on the farm. So it was, instead of telling his parents or his younger sister, one night he stole away from the family farm, abandoning his younger sibling to the family duties in his place. It was quite the blow, especially since Marianna and Thom, despite attempting, had not, even when they were younger, been able to give birth to another child after Aamu, so that meant the family farm would have to go to a daughter instead of a son since the brother, whose name was Thom after his father, had no returned after eight years. So it was to be – somewhere out there was another Roland, alive or dead, his family knew not. He left behind the small, hard-working, easy-going, contented family, who have done their best to forget about the stray member to ensure there wouldn't be any more hardships.
After an eventful Market Day, Aamu met two wonderful elves, one, Briarius Banyon, who Aamu was later to marry and have one daughter with. The other, a green-haired quick-witted female elf who Aamu has rarely seen since that day all those years ago. Aamu now lives with her family at the Banyon Family Farm.
